In Hebrew – our kindergarten through second grade students will acquire Hebrew language skills and vocabulary that apply to their everyday life such as introducing themselves, objects in their class, the daily weather, the days of the week, colors, food, clothing, body parts, numbers, directions in class and grammatical skills like male and female. They will learn the block letters, cursive letters, vowels and start to read Hebrew.
In Torah - our students delve into the stories of the Torah. They explore the stories of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the arch, our forefathers and foremothers, Moses, and Aaron and more. They explore midrashim for each parasha, they explore important pesukim (verses) using Mikraot Gedolot.
Our students also learn and celebrate each Jewish holiday. The students learn the history, the story, the traditions, symbols, customs and blessing or prayers that apply to each holiday. Students meet Rabbis, and other guests to explore how our holidays are celebrated in our community, and in Israel. We have a Sukkah Hop, we visit the apple orchard, make a shofar in the “Shofar Factory”, and sing with spirit every Kabalat Shabbat hoping Babka the spirit bear will join their class for the next week.
Every class has a special year program that summarize a unit of learning. Our first grade students have the celebration of the Siddur, and they receive their first own siddur. Our second grade lead an entire shacharit prayer followed by a fantastic play about exodus.
