Rabbi Brett Oxman is currently in his second year as Executive Director/Headmaster at Bornblum Jewish Community School. Rabbi Oxman was raised in Castro Valley, CA. Upon his graduation from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in Near Eastern Studies. He subsequently earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Judaism in Los Angeles CA, a Masters degree and Rabbinical ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York NY, two rabbinical ordinations from Kollel Aishel Avraham in Monsey NY and one more Rabbinical ordination from the Chief Rabbi and Beth Din in London, England. Rabbi Oxman joined the United States Air Force as a Chaplain Candidate in1982, and was commissioned a Chaplain 1LT in the active duty Air Force in 1985. He ran numerous religious and education programs and simultaneously led multiple teams of religious leaders and teaching faculties spread outacross the continental United States, Western Europe, Australia and the Middle East. He was responsible for the pastoral care and religious education of more than 45,000 Active Duty Airmen and their families. He was the senior finance and budget officer for the United States Air Force’s Chaplain Corps.
Chaplain Oxman served multiple tours in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait. He received two personal Presidential commendations - one was presented to him in the White House. His military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star, the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Meritorious Service medal. He was selected the Air Force outstanding chaplain of the year and the Jewish military chaplain of the year. Last April Rabbi Oxman concluded a 32+ year career in the United States Air Force as a Colonel and Command Chaplain. He and his wife Cori have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. They live in Memphis across the street from one of their children and two of their grandchildren.
